The Voltage Sensing Relay (or separator) allows two batteries to be charged by the same alternator.
When the engine is started and the starting battery reaches the cut-in voltage, the relay engages, allowing two battery banks, with different capacities, to be charged simultaneously.
When the voltage drops below cut-out voltage (e.g. the engine is stopped), the relay disengages, separating the batteries.
